The recent 300%-plus increase in the engineering services small business size standard (for NAICS Code 541330) now includes firms with total yearly average gross revenues up to $14 million--a change that will impact the entire A/E industry. With the new size standard in effect as of March 12, when will impacts be seen and what impact will there be on ongoing contracts? Understanding the process of how federal agencies will adjust strategic acquisition plans within this new definition is of vital importance for firms involved with or considering the federal marketplace.

On April 3, ACEC presents 'Small Business'Size Standards Re-defined: Impacts on A/E Firms a timely and important webinar discussion on how decisions on the work to be set-aside for small businesses are expected to be made, and a conversation on scope, geographical boundaries, multiple award, and similar considerations. Robert Burton of Washington's Venable law firm and former head of the Office of Federal Procurement Policy (OFPP) in the Executive Office of the President will address how agencies will likely deal with the new size standard and what oversight will be provided by OMB and OFPP.

The webinar will explain what the newly recognized small firms should know to benefit from their status, how firms just over the new size standard are impacted, what larger firms need to be aware of, and what current small firms need to consider. The size standard change also affects the differing categories of small businesses, including disadvantaged, veteran, women, and similar ownership categories and HUB zone firms. Burton will provide an overview of what the industry may experience and how affected firms can prepare and benefit.

ACEC's Mark Steiner will participate with Burton and address size standard changes in related industries as well as Small Business Program changes included in current Bills being introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives this year. Potential impacts on the overall engineering industry will be discussed.
