USACE's Sustainability Program: An Insider's Perspective
Speaker: Douglas Warnock, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
Recorded: October 13, 2011
Length: 90 minutes

As a steward for some of the nation's most valuable natural resources, the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) must strive to achieve environmental sustainability, delivering products and services that provide sustainable solutions and address short and long-term environmental, social, and economic issues.

Adoption of Environmental Operating Principles in 2002, along with the USACE's Campaign Plan to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions to the nation's engineering challenges, set the stage for all of the Corps' work.

Furthering the Corps' commitment to sustainability, Executive Order 13514: Federal Leadership in Environmental, Energy and Economic Performance, called for increased focus on sustainability, requiring federal agencies to meet energy, water, and waste reduction targets in an effort to reach sustainability goals and serving as a mechanism to bring the Corps' independent actions together.

Douglas Warnock, of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Headquarters, presents a unique webinar and insider perspective on topics including:

  • Overview of USACE and the external environmental and energy statutes, regulations, and Executive Orders driving its sustainability program nationwide
  • Internal policy and plan for implementing USACE's sustainability program
  • Examples of sustainability projects and initiatives currently being executed
