The mission of U.S. Department of Agriculture, Rural Utilities Service, is to fund projects and increase economic opportunities in rural areas.  This is accomplished through a variety of loan and grant programs in three general categories: electric energy, telecommunications, and water and waste disposal projects.  RUS provides financial assistance through direct and guaranteed loans as well as grant programs.   RUS distributes billions annually in  loans and grants for:

  • Water and wastewater projects
  • Electric Power, Transmission, and Distribution
  • Telecommunications
  • Renewable and Energy Efficiency program

This online seminar offers a unique opportunity to learn how RUS money is distributed and where engineers and local communities fit into the picture.   Representatives of each of the RUS areas will provide general information and discussion of available programs.

Learning Objectives:

  • Find out about funding opportunities for utility infrastructure in rural America.
  • Learn about an engineering firm's role in the use of these funds.
  • Understand general requirements associated with use of the funds.
